I made it to Brisbane! Eventually.
Dosed up on anti-travel sickness pills, I arrived in Brisbane on the 10th, and had 2 and a half days there to play with. Firstly, I was really happy to be in a city again, and compared to Cairns, Brisbane was definitely a proper city - lots of high rises, people going to work, coffee shops etc. Perfect.
I spent my first afternoon on necessities - getting my laundry done, walking from the hostel to the city to get my bearings and have a good look.
On the second day, I took a scenic boat cruise on the Brisbane River, which cuts through the city and takes about 90 mins. It was a lovely start to the day, weather was amazing and the boat man (driver? sailor) was able to tell us all about the history of Brisbane and lots of the landmarks you can see from the river.

After the boat trip, I had booked to pop to the cinema at 1 to see Bohemian Rhapsody, as I hadn't got around to it yet, and was dying to see it! It was amazing, 10/10.
As the film finished late afternoon, I had planned to walk over to the Botanic Gardens afterwards, but I had (stupidly) burnt one of my arms on the boat that morning, so just headed back to the hostel and relaxed for the evening.
I took the next day to visit the gardens and check out the main Gallery and Museum in Brisbane - both were quite small and not too impressive- the Museum especially was 95% taxidermy which is not really my cup of tea... is it anyone's? Ah well. I stopped for some lunch by the river - a glass of bubbly and some garlic bread. I'm on holiday right?!
Overall I really liked Brisbane, it's a nice compact city, not too busy and everything you need in one place - with a beautiful river, too. The hostel was good, nice and clean, but very loud - there was a club tacked on the back so a bit noisy when you aren't taking part. Also didn't have the best luck with roommates - none that wanted to converse which is a shame, but I was happy to be on my own for a couple of days after being sociable on Fraser/Noosa etc. :)
